Arrival in Waterdeep -
The party has joined Captain Tenzo on the the airship, the Mithral Griffon, for a reconnaissance mission to gather intelligence on the Castle Naerytar. Upon entering the swamp known as the Mere of Deadmen the airship was attacked by a black dragon. A quick but huge aerial battle between the black dragon known as Voaraghamanthar & the Mithral Griffon took place. The ships canons blasted the dragon but the balloon was popped by a tail whip as the dragon also fell. The ship was damaged & crashed in the swamp just 3 miles south from Castle Naerytar. Captain Tenzo & his crew of clockwork gnome sailors have begun repairs on the Mithral Griffon. He has asked the party to complete the mission & return to get back to Waterdeep for the Lord's Alliance council on the Cult of the Dragon. The party agreed & set off to find the castle. Travelling northward toward the castle the party notices a lizardfolk trail leading to the castle. They follow it & arrive there (in stealth mode) to see a large camp surrounding the castle.
The party attempted a siege of Zarr the Invincible's lair in the Undermountain for the reward from Lord Brawnanvil & in search of the cult of the dragon's latest victim, Lord Arthagast Ulbrinter. Unfortunately they were captured by Zarr. Yet fortune put them in the same holding cell as the kidnapped Lord. Soon a party of heroes (Rian Nightshade, Talon Everhale, Nymmestra the Sun Elf Wizard, Barrowin Urdurr & Alaeros Margaster) sent by the Open Lord of Waterdeep herself, Lady Silverhand, & Lord Neverember of Neverwinter (a personal friend of Lord Ulbrinter) rescued both the party & Lord Ulbrinter. Yet Zarr remained unchallenged in his lair beneath the city of splendors. Upon surfacing the party was invited to join the siege of Castle Naerytar in the Mere of Deadmen by Captain Zephon... This is where it is believed the stolen treasures from various towns were taken by the cult of the dragon. This is also where Rezmir a major cult leader is believed to be hiding. Her castle is surrounded by several different forces; bullywugs, lizardfolk, yuan-ti & kobolds... All are completely or somewhat aligned with the cult of the dragon including a black dragon who has ruled the swampy mere of deadmen for a century.
The Yawning Portal Inn & the Undermountain - a local noble & the ambassador of the dwarven nations, Lord Connerad Brawnanvil, has made it locally known that a ridiculously huge reward & a possible job as his personal agents is offered to the adventurer or adventuring party which finds Halaster Blackcloak's "Ring of Djinni". The ring is a powerful magical item which enslaves a genie who obeys your every command & enforces it with his magic as well as can grant a number of wishes. This powerful item can only be used by the weilder of Halaster's Staff (an artifact which Brawnanvil already has collected). Undermountain is giant deep maze, it contains several cities and thousands of miles of caves, tunnels & rooms. Not to mention the giant monsters & as well as armies of various evil humanoids. The "Ring of Djinni" is a powerful item belonging to Halaster Blackcloak himself. In the hundreds of years the Yawning Portal Inn has sent adventurers down there most have not returned but of those who did none have ever found or even seen the ring. Yet of the very few who have returned from the deepest places in the Undermountain swear there is much evidence that proves it does in fact exist. Lord Brawnanvil has of recently increased the reward again to One Million Gold Pieces ( 1,000,000 GP) So many, including us, have again begun exploring the dungeon level by entering the well at the Yawning Portal Inn.
Waterdeep, city of splendors... We arrive at the huge city the party separates to shop & explore the city. In the newspaper the Lord's Alliance is having a council here in Waterdeep in one week to plan some action against the cult of the dragon. We are put up in a nice Inn known as the Dragon's Head Inn in the Castle ward...
